And then there was fire- Restaurant Review

And Then There Was Fire is a restaurant in Krugersdorp, located inside the Nirox Sculpture Park.

It is an easy 45-minute drive from Johannesburg or Pretoria, and about 20 to 30 minutes if you are coming from Northriding, Honeydew, or Clearwater. If you enjoy a scenic atmosphere and want a quiet escape that feels removed from the city, this is definitely a spot worth visiting.

The restaurant’s aesthetic is a monochromatic blend of natural wood fading into soft whites. It creates a calm, relaxed mood with beautiful lighting and a feeling of openness all around you.

The space is split into two areas:
• The Tapas Café, which is indoors and serves smaller tapas-style dishes
• The Garden or Woodfired Grill, which is outdoors and serves the main menu meals

For my meal, I ordered the half deboned chicken with French fries and the pork belly with fennel, celery, and apple salad.

The chicken was seasoned really well. It was moist, flavourful, and easy to chew. I give it a solid 9/10. The pork belly looked amazing, with soft meat and a perfectly crispy crackling. I felt it needed a touch more salt, but they do provide salt on the side, so you can season it to your liking. Overall, I would rate it 8/10.

The restaurant is open Thursday to Sunday, from 11:30 am to 4 pm.
Bookings are essential, and there is a R100 deposit per person, which is deducted from your bill at the end.

If you are looking for a peaceful day out in Gauteng with great food, beautiful scenery, and a quiet, curated atmosphere, this is a place you should not miss.
